Bryan’s Story

At Edge, success looks different for every young adult — but it always begins with building the skills and confidence needed for independence. Bryan’s journey is a powerful example of what can be achieved when those foundations are in place.

From Ambition to Action

Bryan joined our Life Programme in 2024 with a love of theatre, film, and acting, and a big ambition: to create a project that would shine a light on neurodivergence. Over his time at Edge, he’s built the practical and personal skills to turn that ambition into reality.

Through our travel training, Bryan learned how to plan journeys, manage busy environments, and travel safely on his own. These new skills gave him the confidence to do something once unimaginable — make the trip to London, independently, for several days of filming.

Turning Vision into Reality

Our independent living skills sessions supported Bryan to develop greater self-awareness and understanding — both of himself and of others. This has supported him not just in portraying characters authentically, but also in ensuring the wellbeing of others on set and speaking up for himself with confidence.

With these foundations in place, Bryan has:

  • Launched a collaborative acting and filming project.

  • Established his own production company.

  • Written, directed, and starred in The Supply Teacher, where he played the second lead role.

Reflecting on his progress, Bryan shared:

Edge gave me the foundations — from train travel training and practical skills to understanding myself and others. That meant not only could I play a character authentically, but I could also make sure everyone’s wellbeing was looked after during filming.”

Living the Edge Ethos: Believe. Transform. Achieve.

For Bryan, this is a huge milestone. He has gained independence, self-advocacy skills, and a broader outlook on the world around him. And in doing so, he has truly lived out Edge’s ethos:

  • He believed — setting his sights on creating a project that would highlight neurodivergence.

  • He transformed — developing the confidence to travel independently, adapt to new and busy environments, understand himself and others more deeply, and take on the responsibility of supporting his peers.

  • He achieved —launching a collaborative production company and playing a leading role in a hugely positive film project that has since gained national recognition.

The Supply Teacher has already received widespread praise, winning two awards at the London Indie Film FestivalBest Film on a Disability Issue and Best Debut Filmmaker. These accolades are a testament not only to Bryan’s creativity and leadership, but also to the team’s commitment to bringing authentic stories about neurodivergence to the forefront.

Aaaaaand, that’s a wrap!
